Students often find accounting to be a daunting topic. Students majoring in any field of business, typically must successfully complete both financial and managerial accounting (i.e. principles of accounting). These are both exciting and extremely useful courses that students need to take. Have you ever wondered “why do I have to take these accounting courses”? Accounting is the language of business and that makes the topics that you study in these courses extremely important to your future no matter what your chosen business field. I often have students say that they are going to run their own business and they will hire an accountant so they don’t need to know this “stuff”. However, if you think really hard about that, my hope would be you would reconsider that philosophy. Do you really want to give 100% carte blanche to someone with your money and you have zero idea what is going on? Probably not! Having some basic knowledge and skills in accounting will allow you the ability to know what is financially going on in your business (you’ll still need an accountant) and will help with managerial decision making. This eBook is going to help you understand some of the basic skills needed to fully understand what is going on in accounting. In this eBook I will discuss some financial accounting topics as well as some managerial accounting topics to help you have a better foundational knowledge of accounting. You will not be able to read this eBook and pass your financial or managerial accounting courses. What you may be able to do is read this eBook and better understand some of the concepts in your financial and managerial accounting courses.
