The purpose behind writing THE 99 NAMES OF PEACE is to put forward a new approach to peace theory & practice using a project-based strategy showcasing the diversity of the world’s linguistic systems to highlight each culture’s potential contributions to peace. The current world truly seems to be falling apart with endless power blocks, nations, religions, and ideologies struggling for supremacy. How can we reach unity when everyone is speaking a different language, stridently and in cacophonous rivalry? It is as if we are experiencing a new Babel moment, and human arrogance has stricken us with mutual inter-incomprehension. But after decades of studying and teaching the world’s languages, histories, cultures, and religions, and after writing several books previously on the philosophy of language and detailed studies of sonic mysticism across diverse religions, the author has brought together into a single book the fruits of a lifetime of research or perhaps even many lifetimes! He has chosen to share the in-depth history of 99 carefully chosen languages, as well as giving their words for peace, enlightenment, learning, education, love, God, spirit, nature, etc. In addition, each chapter also includes one of 99 specific projects carefully curated and developed over time, since the formation of the International Institute of Peace Studies and Global Philosophy at the University of London back in 1991.
