The Mystery of Marie Rogêt

In July 1841, the body of Mary Cecilia Rogers was found in the Hudson River, New York. She was an extremely beautiful 21-year-old, whose case shocked the American public opinion, and there were many details of this crime in the newspaper headlines. However, this homicide was not solved and thee are suspicions of a gang or a lover, being the second option more likely. Masterfully, Edgar Allan Poe, in this fictional story, The Mystery of Marie Rogêt, created a similar case, raising notable parallels between Mary Cecilia Rogers and Marie Rogêt, although changing the place of events, since Marie Rogêt appears dead in the Seine River, in Paris, and the brilliant detective, C. Auguste Dupin, is in charge of solving this case, given the ineffectiveness of the police forces. The events take place two years after the episode The Murders in the Rue Morgue, and Dupin recognizes that this investigation is much more difficult than the previous one.
