In 1987, the World Commission on Environment and Development published its final report, Our Common Future, also known as the Brundtland report, after Gro Harlem Brundtland, who had led the commission. This book aims at investigating how the concept and the idea of Sustainable Development have changed since 1987. And to what extent our daily lifes are affected. To do this, CSST – Developmental Studies have gathered a heterogeneous group of environmental researchers, coming from a number of different experiences and geographies: Italy, Greece, Mexico, Mozambique by way of the United States; private research institutions, like CSST – Developmental Studies which sponsored and published the book, are coupled by universities and international agencies. Experts of environmental history come along with others experienced in economics and resource management. One of our goals was to give as broad an idea of what sustainable development is, today, and we are confident we achieved this point.
