A comprehensive cost-benefit analysis of one of the largest sports events: the European Championship Football (Soccer). The publication includes a literature review on sports events, a discussion of cost-benefit analysis. The study contains detailed data and information, e.g. on the number of visitors (by country of origin), the average expenditures, total expenditures and overnight stays. Also social impacts on the local population and promotional effects for the host cities in foreign countries are presented and discussed. The Championship was hosted by the Netherlands and Belgium in the year 2000. This publication is based on a Ph.D. thesis for the Sheffield Hallam University.
