In this research, I investigated the moral foundations and values held by voters that influence their opinion on the teaching of Critical Race Theory (or culturally relevant teaching) in K-12 public schools. A review of literature on political polarization and wedges, Moral Foundations Theory, and CRT as it is known today is the underpinning for my analysis of political rhetoric, public opinion, and legislation being introduced. Ultimately, I find that the commentary by politicians (both Republican and Democrat) work to engage the Fairness, Loyalty, and Liberty foundations as proposed by Jonathan Haidt.
