I hope that anyone who picks up this book enjoys the images and words.
They were created by three different artists capturing individual impressions of
the soulful, eclectic, urban, and natural beauty that can be found in Houston,
Texas and its surrounding regions.
The idea for this book originally began as an introspective visual study of unique
landscapes that I’ve encountered throughout my life. As a painter, I’m interested
in the visual conversation between landscapes, nature, space (both man-made
and natural), and the connections between them.
However, what I learned throughout the process was the basic instinct and
commonality for capturing and creating images among three artists. In addition,
it wasn’t only about creating images, but acknowledging a history and personal
story about the life of one artist who lives in Houston, and how it’s intertwined with
the other two artists who live in a vastly different city and landscape. Our images
share how we are connected and how our visual interpretations are fed by personal
and innate aesthetic sensibilities.
In the past year, the lives of two artists (the third included as well) collided and this
book is a collection of first collaborations. I hope the images share a glimpse into the
interpretations of Houston and the people, buildings, landscapes, and art that thrives
in the beautiful Bayou City.
