Tales of a Gen X Nobody describes Austin, TX from an era known as "Slacker" named after Richard Linklater's 1991 independent film of the same name. The Author, Ellen Bartel, speaks to her role as a young dancer and performance artist finding her way in town after moving from New York. Ellen played a vital role as a performer and also in mobilizing dancers, choreographers and musicians to create new works. The author also shares deeply personal events and struggles within her home-life and the loss of her husband in the prime of his life to cancer. She tells of her process toward healing from loss, and where Austin's local art scene is today. Hers is a journey of three decades where in that time, Austin, its artists and herself see many changes. The old haunts of these young creatives have disappeared, people and places too important to let go of without a mention. The book brings that time and place back to life for the Gen Xer's out there who want to reminisce of a time that has silently passed and for next generation to help keep our memories alive.
