Daily Gratitude Journal
Increasing Happiness & Contentment One Day at a Time
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
Gratitude refers to the emotion of feeling grateful, or a “felt sense of wonder, thankfulness, and appreciation for life” (Emmons & Shelton, 2002), and it is a worthwhile topic to explore. Regular self-expression of gratitude leads to increased feelings of happiness, as well as reports of higher life satisfaction, meaningfulness, and productivity. It is EASY and can be done in as little as 5-10 minutes a day!
Why You Should Try It:
It’s easy to take the good things and people in our lives for granted, but research suggests that consciously considering and appreciating them can have profound effects on our well-being and relationships. Journaling about gratitude can help you develop a greater appreciation for the good in your life. In fact, people who routinely express gratitude enjoy better health and greater happiness.
While it’s important to analyze and learn from things and events that go wrong, humans have a tendency towards negativity bias, or to look for things that may harm or threaten them. A gratitude journal forces us to pay attention to the good things in life we might otherwise miss or undervalue. In that way, we start to become more attuned to the everyday sources of pleasure around us—and the emotional and mental tone of our life can shift in profound ways.
Why It Works:
Writing about these daily good events is key: research suggests translating thoughts into concrete language on paper makes us more aware of them, deepening their emotional impact One example - in a study in 2003, it was found that people who wrote in a Gratitude Journal weekly for 10 weeks, or daily for two weeks, experienced more gratitude, positive moods, and optimism about the future, as well as better sleep, compared to those who journaled about hassles or their daily life. Practicing gratitude has also shown to decrease mental health symptoms such as depression and anxiety.
Give it a try!
