Operations Management Case Study for the Laparoscopic Surgery Unit of Western General Hospital

This report presents an analysis for improving on the performance of the laparoscopic surgery unit of the Western General Hospital. Patients at this hospital in need of laparoscopic surgery experience delays if surgery can wait because of a lack of operating theaters. It is important to try to improve this because service failures in private hospitals result in lost income and poor service does not appeal to the customers. Thus, competitive practice demands that Western General Hospital administration tries to compete in the market for health service by improving quality of service and waiting time. The added income will gradually offset expenses incurred on an extra operating theater and improved service will add to the reputation and prestige of this hospital to bring in more patients.
