The Impact of the Appreciation of the Chinese Currency

The growth of the Chinese economy has been truly phenomenal since this country switched to a policy of greater openness to the outside world. The country has emerged as a significant force in global economy, but China’s success has not been without controversy and many business leaders in the United States have called for the appreciation of the Chinese Yuan or the RMB. This dissertation takes a look at a number of issues associated with the exchange rate for the RMB, including the exchange rate regime, institutional factors and the likely consequences of an appreciation of the RMB.
