Anti-Catholic sentiments and revolts in Britain had three main reasons: 1) “political distrust,” 2) “theological disagreement,” and 3) “popular fear” (Haydon, 1993: 3). This study will analyze those reasons in details and will demonstrate the links between these reasons and the Gordon Riots.
