Geoffrey of Monmouth's Merlin
This ebook may not meet accessibility standards and may not be fully compatible with assistive technologies.
Geoffrey of Monmouth (1090/1100-1155) who lived in the first half of the twelfth century (Jarman, 1999: 130) wrote The History of the Kings of Britain in the 1130s (Littleton and Malcor, 1995: 87). Echard (2011: 1) indicates that Geoffrey of Monmouth finished the book in 1138. This essay of mine analyses a) why Merlin occurs in The History of the Kings of Britain written by Geoffrey of Monmouth, b) why Merlin was consulted for his prophecies, and c) why he is a prophetic figure rather than a magician in the same book by Geoffrey of Monmouth.
