Initially set in Southern Italy during the years following the end of dictatorship, this story describes a man's battle with poverty and his experience with immigration. Alfonso Torelli is a God-fearing, hard-working family man. When fate leads him into the Australian coal mines, together with an immoral 'Don Juan', son of a murdered Mafioso, trouble is bound to happen. Will the evil ways of one bring down the other, or will they both learn something important about the meaning of friendship and forgiveness?
