The Buddha’s Path of Virtue The Dhammapada–translated in 1921– is a Buddhist scripture ascribed to the Buddha himself. It is one of the best-known texts from the Theravada canon. The title, Dhammapada, is composed of two words. Dhammarefers to the Buddha’s “doctrine” or an “eternal truth” or “righteousness” or all “phenomena”. Pada means “foot” and by extension, “path” or “verse”.
