Fred Griffin, a pacific northwest artist, teacher and graphic designer, said the act of drawing by hand teaches the brain visual information in a way that other methods of design exploration cannot.
Griffin intended these studies to be a visual refresher. His simple sketches invite the eye and brain to see the changes in a symbol as it is drawn through basic design principles.
Because each page was sketched at different moments during coffee breaks, the art is loose and casual. Griffin said it is a flip-book to remind us of the subtle two-dimensional changes available when crafting a symbol.
