This book contains a historical overview of the Arameans and their relationship with the Assyrians, and takes a quick look at the northwestern Semitic languages, of which Aramaic is a branch, and it is the origin of the Syriac language.
It presents the origin and development of the Syriac alphabet and its branching in details. Then we turn to the most prominent Syriac schools, in which the most prominent figures of Assyrian theologians, writers and poets appeared. Then we deal with the literature and sciences of the Syriac language, poetry metrics, it´s sorts and varieties.
In the last three chapters, we present a biography of the most prominent Syriac writers and poets and their literary outputs, dividing them into three roughly equal historical periods, each one extending about 700 years.
