During the years of his royal service, Vauban was at times an Infantryman, Cavalryman, Artilleryman, Mining engineer, Architect, builder of canals, bridges and Roads, Hydrographer, Surveyor, Tactician and writer, he was a brave man, and a true patriot. One hundred years after his death on orders from Napoleon, his heart was buried under the dome of Les Invalides in Paris among the great men of his country.
