At 2142 eastern standard time, on December 20, 1995, American Airlines Flight 965, a Boeing 757-223, on a scheduled passenger flight from Miami International Airport, Florida, U.S.A., to Alfonso Bonilla Aragon International Airport, in Cali, Colombia, crashed into a mountain. The airplane impacted near the summit of El Deluvio. Of the 163 people on board, 4 passengers survived the accident. Upon approaching Cali, the pilots erroneously cleared the approach waypoints from their navigation computer. They attempted to program the navigation computer for the next approach waypoint, but made a mistake, resulting in the airplane turning east in a wide semicircle. The pilots had put the aircraft on a collision course with mount El Deluvio, a 3,000-meter mountain. A jury found that Jeppesen was 30 percent at fault for the crash, Honeywell was 10 percent at fault, and American Airlines was 60 percent at fault. Jeppesen and Honeywell made the navigation computer database.
