Do you know how much time you have to complete all your Academic tasks, in the therefore 'alloted' time? The full time 'eenheid' (fte) time you negotiated when you started your appointment? Do you know that in Academia World Wide it is both known and accepted that the 'Work Load' is often, in bursts, far far FAR too high to handle, and that a lot of good brilliant people loose there way in grading exams, but even more in doing workshops? Of course you do, because otherwise you would not have accomplished the sore task to get your PhD/doctorate/tenures-ship) The WorkLoadCompany, abbreviated as W.L.C. (i.o.) is going to be founded on the principle that 'knowing your own personal 'Work Load' gives YOU a lot of space in planning, and knowing how t even out and displace tasks to assistants, or say NO, no no no NO, to yèt another course. Its something that starts with getting the gist of the fundamentals of WorkLoad and Flow Theory. On Taakbelasting.nl and taakbelasting.wordpress.com, I supplied a, by Gerda Groen (University Groningen) a open sourced .xls sheet. A 7 tab 'matrix' that does so for a group of up to a hundred researchers with a need to give courses, and starts with taking down, in the sheet, your own strictly agreed upon time for 1. research, 2. education, and 3. management. But, you can set any time for research, also in your free time, and management, ALSO in your free time. Yet the time you need to invest for teaching a (new) course, becomes set in stone. People make appointments around YOUR course, buildings needs te be warmed, students informed, often a year in advance, but often, also world wide. How much time YOU need to accomplish even a simple course is something you find out afterwards, often dead tired, or, just as possible, with hey, a few hours left to finish your next paper. This .pdf sheet, developed, by me, for Gerda Groen, is used in (Dutch) Academia. In this form for over ten years, and reached Milestone 4.7.1 in it’s recent development.
