Spiritual Practices and the Sexual Purity of Christian College Students at Appalachian State University

ByGlen Massey

The next generation of college students, called Millennials, is pushing the boundaries sexually like no previous generation. Christian college students studying at secular universities are dangerously influenced by the surrounding worldliness and popular culture such that their sexual practices and beliefs often mirror that of secular culture rather than the Bible’s teaching on sexuality. Millennials are confused regarding the definition and purpose of sexual intercourse, and they struggle with where to draw the line regarding other sexual practices. A Christian student’s commitment to spiritual formation should lead to a commitment of practicing sexual purity and avoiding sexual immorality. Meaningfully engaging in time-tested spiritual practices, called spiritual disciplines, create a space for God to do his work of transforming the heart, which is necessary for students to faithfully follow God’s purposes and design for sexual expression.
