"Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near" —Matthew 4:17. The Near Kingdom is a collection of sermons preached by Glenn Daves over the course of thirty years, spanning topics from faith and salvation and the Christian life to holidays and weddings. Daves observes, after reading the sermons again, "I am struck by how aspirational they are. Indeed, I start several of them reminding my audience that 'I write these for me.' I wish my life more closely reflected the truths and lessons in these pages. "That said, it is equally true that much of what you will read here also comes from the other side. They are truths and lessons drawn from my life of and experience of faith. Like all of us, then, my spiritual life fully embodies the now / not-yet paradox of Christ’s kingdom," having traveled far, but not nearly there yet.
