A mysterious old couple, on the outskirts of a small village, has a child that the holy men fear to be abominable. The child, Gill, isn’t able to draw breath outside of the water, and is for that reason kept in the old couple’s pond. When the holy men decide that Gill must be put to death, the unusual boy, armed only with his will, tries against all odds to make his way to the sea and ultimate freedom, hoping against hope that he will find the strength within himself to survive the arduous journey.
