Meditation on a Yoruba Hymn for Organ Duet

Meditation on a Yoruba Hymn is a quiet and contemplative work. It is structurally divided into three sections. It opens with an introductory prelude in duple meter and gently moves into the second section in triple meter. This section is based on a Yoruba church hymn, "Idahun re la nreti" (We are waiting to hear from you). It closes quietly with the first four measures of the prelude. Closing the piece softly symbolizes the period of waiting on God for the answer to the prayer, that is, the period of SILENCE!

About Prof. Godwin Sadoh

Prof. Godwin Sadoh is a Nigerian organist, pianist, composer, ethnomusicologist, choral conductor, and prolific publishing scholar with over 100 publications including 12 books. Sadoh studied at the University of Pittsburgh, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and Louisiana State University-Baton Rouge, where he earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree and became the first African to earn a doctorate in organ performance from any institution in the world. Prof. Sadoh's publications have been catalogued in some of the most prestigious archival centers and university libraries around the world, including the Library of Congress, Smithsonian Libraries, Harvard University, Yale University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Center for Black Music Research, Bayreuth University, and the University of Pretoria. Sadoh is a recipient of the ASCAP PLUS Award for over 10 years in recognition of the performances of his compositions around the globe.
