Tribute to Homeland for Chamber Orchestra is based on a Yoruba folk song titled, “Mo ri kini kan t'o nfo loferefe” (I see something flying in the sky). Using this song as the basis of this work creates a nostalgia for my home country, Nigeria. Memories of singing the song at Eko Boys' High School Choir in Lagos readily comes to mind. The work is in four main sections. Some of the Africanisms employed in the work are the scintillating dance rhythms, parallel harmony, ostinati, interlocking rhythms, and the juxtaposing of constant and varied rhythmic patterns. The instrumentation includes flute, oboe, clarinet in B-flat, bassoon, horn in F, trumpet in C, trombone, tuba, timpani, 2 violins, viola, violin cello, and double bass.
