The Austrian Papers is an historical novel set during the turbulent unification period between Germany, Prussia and Austria, and the subsequent development of the German land grant program in Texas.
Young Baron von Sturnfeld is seeking answers to the suspicious death of his father. In the process, he becomes engulfed in an international plot of intrigue that takes him from Hannover, Germany to New Braunfels, Texas. Along the way, he teams up with his father’s friend, Baron von Cassel, and they discover the answer to his quest lies with the carrier of a politically explosive document – the Austrian Papers. But they aren’t the only ones seeking this mysterious carrier and the documents he protects. Many are in pursuit; each with a different agenda.
Their dangerous and action-packed search follows the German emigration route to Texas, by land and by sea, during an equally unsettled time in Texas history.
