In, The Evening Doorman, the protagonist, River, is the philosophical evening doorman at a five star hotel in Newport Beach. At the hotel he observes the eccentric, sordid, and sometimes beautiful behavior of the rich and famous. He spends his free time looking at homeless shelters searching for his heroin addict mother.
