To many collectors, Jack “King” Kirby (Jacob Kutzberg 1917-1994) is the Grand Master of comics, not only because of the quality of his work, and the massive body of work that stretched into 7 different decades, but because the number of iconic characters he created or co-created outnumbers any other comic master. Jack Kirby created LIGHTNIN' AND THE LONE RIDER in 1939 as a daily newspaper strip – those strips reprinted here form the early pages of this collection, before Jack began writing and drawing them for the comics. Pages 14-23 were drawn all or in part by Frank Robbins; the rest are classic early Kirby! This is the complete collection of LIGHTNIN' AND THE LONE RIDER to the best of our knowledge. The reliable index sources state that the series ended with Famous Funnies #80, but #81 is not currently available, so there is at least the theoretical possibility that another two pages exist.
