Gwandanaland Comics #3387 -- One Of The Great Women Masters Of Comics in the 1940s
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
Janice Valleau Winkleman (1923-2013) was one of a handful of successful women comic book artists during the Golden Age of Comics. Her work has been lauded for decades for its distinctive style, and her skillful composition, as well as a talent for drawing the feminine form in a realistic and appealing comic style. She was the subject of the prologue in David Hadju's “The Ten-Cent Plague: The Great Comic Book Scare And How It Changed America.” She worked in comics for eleven years, leaving when the Wertham controversy soured her on commercial art of all types.
This collection represents stories actually signed by Ms. Valleau, either as “Ginger,” “J. Valleau” or her married name “Winkleman.” Although other stories are attributed to her, Gwandanalander Fred Marra is not convinced they were her work, and so this collection – requested by Fred – contains only those stories we can say 100% were the work of Janice Valleau Winkleman.
