Although he began as a series of short stories and books, Hopalong Cassidy hit his stride in 1935 when William Boyd began to play the character in movies – and from there Hopalong became a comic book star, TV star, merchandise star, and even for a while had his own theme park, Hoppyland! The popularity of Hopalong Cassidy lasted for decades, and while he's not a household name, it's still well-known. The comic series began in the 1940s and ran for 85 exciting issues, and “Hoppy” appeared in many other comics, too.
