Atop his trusty steed Thunder, and alogside his pal Spurs (on his horse Calico) Arizona Raines rode the west, went where the trail took him, and stopped where he needed to help those he knew he must. We was even-tempered and cool, but when provoked into a fight, was quicker than a mountain lion and stronger than the West wind. His gunmanship was unsurpassed, and his run in Crack Western #63-84 proved his popularity. He was the first feature of the books, often appearing in two stories and most of the covers. ARIZONA RAINES stories were drawn entirely by Paul Gustavson, and reputedly all written by Paul – one of those rare long-running series which relied on one master hand. In the first few stories he was called ARIZONA AMES.
