This is a rare poetry book in modern Assyrian (vernacular Syriac) with English commentaries on the poems published in the book. The poet is prominent Assyrian artist Hannibal Alkhas (1930-2010), mainly a painter who picked up the poetry at the age of 40. This book contains a third of his works. It is written in modern Assyrian, Urmian dialect with great emphasis on accuracy of spelling and placement of vowels. This book contains a variety of poetry styles showing the richness and adaptability of modern Assyrian language. It is an amusing read and is also recommended as text or reference material for the Assyrian language course work.
