About Andrea Biederman

Harold Swartz became a volunteer fireman for the city of West Covina in 1954. He became a full-time fireman in 1955. At the station, he was given the nickname Sam. He worked up through the ranks to Battalion Chief and retired from the fire department in 1980. He joined the West Covina Lions Club in 1974. He told jokes at the weekly Lions Club meetings until advanced Parkinson’s Disease kept him from going to the meetings. A fellow Lion asked him to write the jokes down, resulting in this book. Harold still lives in West Covina and has difficulty speaking now but wants his jokes to continue to be told. He hopes this book can spread from gifts for family members to being sold, especially for Alzheimers patients. Joke telling is said to improve memory, and he hopes this collection can be a tool of therapy. Although Parkinsons has taken his mobility, Harold's mind and memory at 88 is still sharp.
