By 1890 Western Australia was regarded as a struggling former penal colony of no great prospect, but this picture changed dramatically with the discovery of gold. On what was classed as the Coolgardie Goldfield, some 400 mining settlements appeared, with 40 of these subsequently gazetted as townships. Then, as the gold was swindled, these towns were gradually erased from map and memory. Faded Colour tells the story of them.
