Written in Japanese. This book follows the life story of an oriental medicine specialist named Hideo Sakai (1949-2022). The youngest of seven brothers and sisters, Hideo spent his high school years immersed in soccer. After consecutively preparing and attempting college entrance exams for three strait years, Hideo discovered that he did not know what he wanted to do in life, and going to college did not seem the right fit anymore. Wanting to at least do something with his life, Hideo saved up some money and set off on a year-long bicycle trip around Europe. While in Europe, he was deeply inspired by D.T. Suzuki's books about Zen Buddhism; and realized that there was nothing outside of himself that he was looking for, and that what he really wanted to do was right here, right now, within his own life. Upon returning to Japan, he discovered that he had a passion of making people happy with Shiatsu (acupressure massage). And decided to study Shiatsu in Japan. He enrolled in the Toyo Acupuncture and Moxibustion College (Toyo Shinkyu school), where he found excellent educators. Hideo's ideal life began. After graduating at the age of 28, he immediately started his own practice as an acupuncturist at the “Komei-do” clinic in Nerima, Tokyo. And from then, until the day he passed away at the age of 72, Hideo spent each and every day helping his patients devout passion. Another aspect of Hideo's life included Steiner education. With his comrades, he founded “Yu”, an independent private school based on Waldorf education; in Kunitachi, Tokyo. At “Yu,” outstanding Steiner experts such as Dr. Ryuhan Nishikawa gathered, and a heated interest about Steiner education unfolded in Tokyo.
The entire text from “Bike Trip Memoirs” written by 24-year-old Hideo is included.
This book was created through personal interviews that the author conducted with Hideo Sakai and is also based off of ideas of Rudolf Steiner’s biography work. It is intended to describe how an outstanding healer named Hideo Sakai lived his life, and how he came to have these “Divine healing hands”.
