Myths – Widely Held But False Beliefs In The Climate Change Crisis

ByIain Aitken

Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
We have been told that we are experiencing a man-made climate change crisis, with sea levels spiralling upwards, polar ice spiralling downwards and extreme weather events spiralling out of control - and that to avert climate catastrophe we must limit global warming to 1.5C, requiring that the world becomes carbon neutral by 2050 at the latest. These claims are routinely portrayed as ‘scientific facts’, far beyond reasonable dispute. But many eminent scientists do dispute them. They say that whilst we do know that global warming and climate change are happening and that human activity is contributing to them to some extent, we do not know to what extent, whether or not it is a ‘dangerous’ extent and whether or not attempts to achieve carbon neutrality in a few decades might actually do more harm than good. In this book 18 key claims about the putative climate change crisis that we have been told are true are revealed as myths, i.e. widely held but false beliefs. If we cling to these myths we risk getting the climate change problem out of sensible proportion – and risk taking precipitate decarbonization action we may come to deeply regret.
