About Ian Ruxton

Hello! I have been a lulu.com author since 2004 when I published my translation of a book about Japanese students at Cambridge University in the Meiji era (1868-1912), still available here. I teach English at a Japanese national university, Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech) in the city of Kitakyushu on the large island of Kyushu in Western Japan. (I have been a professor emeritus since April 2020.) My main research is the life and letters of Sir Ernest Satow (1843-1929), a distinguished British scholar-diplomat who served in Japan for a total of about 25 years, also in China, Siam (now Thailand), Uruguay and Morocco. Most of my books & ebooks are his edited diaries and letters. I have also done four Japanese to English translations (on Japanese students, Baron Kaneko, Baron Suematsu and Waseda Rugby) and created two books from manuscripts written by my maternal grandfather, Alexander MacDonald, CBE.
