This is a book for the layperson - the man or woman who enjoys reading about history and technology but is not necessarily technically literate. It is for the reader who is interested in finding out how some of the modern miracles such as the Satellite TV in their home, the PC which their children and grandchildren have mastered and the mobile phone which keeps them in touch with family and friends, came about. It describes the trials and tribulations as well as the successes of the scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs who gave freely of their talent, skill and funds to bring about that most important of all human endeavours, communication.
