George Washington and Cecilia Ann Petteway were Former Slaves who were the main force behind building a much needed schoolhouse and Church for the local post-Civil War era children of Former Slaves. Their contributions did not end there. Their children and their children carried on the traditions of supporting causes for the local African American community.
This book covers that heritage and family history of the Onslow County North Carolina Petteway family. Their cemetery in use since ca.1880 is the largest known all African American cemeteries within the county.
