The first study (English) examines how anti-Haitian discrimination originates and is manifested in Dominican society. Among its findings are that Dominican education lacks sufficient instruction in Haitian topics, fear of Haitians is manipulated and perpetuated by politicians, and that Dominicans are generally aware of the extent to which discrimination, though not anti-Haitianismo itself, exists in Dominican society. The second study (Spanish) examines the instruction and retention of information about Haiti and Haitian topics in the Dominican educational system. Among its findings are that Dominican students have a minimal understanding of historical and modern topics relating to Haiti and Haitians, and that their level of knowledge depends greatly upon that of their parents. It concludes that the lack of attention given to these themes and the stigma against addressing them in an educational setting reflects the broader anti-Haitian sentiments that permeate Dominican society as a whole.
