Do not look for it in satellite images or on maps produced in the last 35 years. Elvaton Island no longer exists. Known locally as the vanished Yelbatin — sunken tomb of the Mistress of El — all that remains is the seamount on which this mysterious island once stood. Even the names and the actions of the persons responsible for its destruction have long been purged from the public records of the United States. Yet the amazing story of murder, intrigue, conspiracy, and the near death of human civilization may now be told. Whether it is believed or not is another thing. Look sharp. Truth oft lies a hazard, a seamount perilously close, just there, amid the surface swells and swirls of history.
