Nick Carraway is a graduate of Yale and a bartender in his late thirties who has worked summers in Nantucket and winters in Aspen, flirting unsuccessfully with the goal of becoming a novelist. He is basically a ski bum, a beach bum and a ne’er-do-well who has always been a disappointment
to his parents back in Greenwich. Handsome and charming, he is best at surfing along the surface of life.
The grandson of the Nick Carraway who narrated "The Great Gatsby," Nick worries that he is no better than Tom Buchanan and struggles to define himself in ways his grandfather might approve.
For most of his adult years, he has been content with short-term romances, but then he meets Alexi, a striking young woman, also from Greenwich, who now works for an art auction house in London. During her weekend visit to Nantucket, they fall in love, and he finds himself leaving the USA behind in order to build a life with her in London. This is their love story.
