Persuasion

Having been persuaded to drop her proposed marriage to a naval officer without means eight years ago, Anne Elliot at the start of the novel Persuasion is now 27 years old and still unmarried. The naval officer, Frederick Wentworth, has now returned a wealthy man having made his fortune at sea. But although he intends to now find a bride, he has not forgiven Anne for rejecting him. Set partly in the fashionable city of Bath, Persuasion is one of Jane Austen’s most biting and personal satires of Regency society. Persuasion was Jane Austen’s last completed novel, finished in August 1816. She died at the age of 41 in 1817.
