This is a record of the ancestors and descendants of Hubert Schmelzer and Mary Elisabeth Esch. They married in Hürth, Erftkreis, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany in 1845. They had five children there, and in 1854, they immigrated to Madison, Wisconsin. They settled there and had three additional children. Five of their eight children lived to adulthood, married, and had children. Four of their children remained in Madison, where their lives were intertwined with Madison’s history. Only their oldest child, Alice Schmelzer-Newman, and her extended family left Madison, moving to Morrison County, Minnesota, in 1874. The book provides photographs and known information about descendants through their great-grandchildren and some great-great-grandchildren.
