58 Verses From Fifth Grade

If a feeling lies at the heart of every poem, can there be a truer scribe than a child, whose eyes, ears, heart, and pen remember how to feel for the sake of feeling--love, simply for the sake of loving? To raise money for their class trip to Washington D.C. , the students of Public School 132, Washington Heights, Manhattan, are proud to present "58 Verses from the Fifth Grade" a collection of poems by students, aged 10-12. The selections represent the culmination of three years of reading, reciting and writing poetry by a class of Dominican American elementary school children, published with the support of the Days of Taste and Spoons Across America outreach programs. The pages brim with life: laughter, joy and wonder, as well as pain, loss, and anger. This anthology reflects their feelings, their eloquence, and for lack of a better word--their magic.
