To Eat Is Human Digest Divine is the fruit of Jim Klein's two trips with his wife Zorida Mohammed to her native Trinidad. In the first trip he finds that customs dictate he help kill a goat with his brother-in-law. In the second trip, Zorida's huge family gets together for the first time in 40 years to celebrate a big birthday for her. The two poems in this book come from those two trips: "To Eat Is Human Digest Divine," the first poem, is from the second trip, while the second poem, "Boyo, the Goat," is from the first trip.
