Trade paperback. Halliwell Sutcliffe (1870-1932) was an English author known mostly for his many romantic novels; he also wrote non-fiction books on West Yorkshire and the Yorkshire Dales. His first few novels were not rapturously received by the public, and the first—'Baron Verdigris', written under the pseudonym Jocelyn Quilp—stands out as a maverick in the author’s œuvre. First published in 1894, 'Baron Verdigris' is often referenced due to its having had a frontispiece illustration by Aubrey Beardsley. But this singular novella, a curious amalgam of parodies based on a time-travelling theme, deserves a reappraisal in the 21st century.
