This book documents the fruits of 13 years of research into the long history of the Creer family of the Isle of Man. It is unique in its exhaustive coverage of this Manx family and covers a period from around 1200 until the present day. The research paints a full picture of a typical Manx farming family over the ages. It includes their beginnings as early tenant farmers, earning a living from the sea, working in the lead mines, the emigration of the 19th century, and now ending up as a small Manx family scattered worldwide.
Whilst the genealogy of the main Creer family lines is told in some depth, it is placed in the context of Manx history and life of the period. Individual stories are picked out of intrigue, adultery, family disputes, exploration to the new worlds of America and Australia, child transportation, and heroism in war, to enrich and detail the history of this typical Manx family.
Uniquely, the recent research study into the male DNA of the Creer family is also recorded.
