A Brief History of Pentecostal Movement in Nigeria

The prophecy of Joel that God would pour out His Spirit on all flesh in the last days confirms the current move of the Holy Ghost all over the world. It is the main force behind the great explosion in church growth, especially in Africa, Latin America and Southern Asia. In Nigeria today, the wind of change is blowing across various church denominations. The baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues which was once frowned at is now a common phenomenon, even among the Catholics, Anglicans and Evangelicals. This has revolutionized the mode of worship and made it vibrant and dynamic through spiritual songs, clapping of hands, dance and loud praises to God. This book is a panorama of sorts on Pentecostal churches. I sincerely believe that it will serve to educate believers who intend to understand some basic facts about the early Pentecostal church denominations in Nigeria. It will also serve as a quick reference for information on Pentecostal churches. However, the book was not written to include names of all church denominations in the Pentecostal circle but to trace the roots of many of them. Without mincing words, most of the leaders in Pentecostal denominations in Nigeria today have their roots in the list of church denominations in this book. I do strongly believe that this book will do more than just recount history; it will re-direct our vision, bring significant changes into our misguided orientation and also re-invigorate us for greater spiritual attainment.
