John Cowell made his ‘first’ visit to America aged 72 accompanying his sister, an old hand, familiar with the American way of life, who was visiting friends in Gunnison, Colorado. The experience made such a deep impression on John that he felt compelled to write this book about his ‘adventure’. Colorado, Utah, Nevada and Arizona, previously just names to him, came alive under the expert guidance of Tony and Eileen, his new friends. The Grand Canyon, The Black Canyon, The Mighty Colorado River, the cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde, the Rocky Mountains, the ‘magical’ city of Las Vegas and many more unforgettable sights left a lasting impression on him. He was privileged to see many iconic locations including a visit to Monument Valley, Utah, with its haunting sandstone formations. The history of the Native American tribes is described to him by his mentor Tony. By way of finale white water rafting on the Gunnison River provides a thrilling climax to a wonderful American experience.
